ENVIROVENTURE

The inaugural Enviroventure was held at Woodman Point on 1-3 August, with 20 Venturers and Rovers attending.

Enviroventure offers Venturers and Rovers the opportunity to complete a large portion of their World Conservation Badge (which is the same for both sections).

Participants were treated to presentations from expert guest speakers including the Department of Fisheries, Raptor Presentations and Simon Cherriman, winner of the WA Youth Awards Environment Category and SEAP members Cressida Wilson and Ella Maesepp.

Environmental law and legislation, environmental management tools, birds of prey, fishing, national parks, and conservation organisations were some of the topics covered. A Scouts Own was held on the beach on Sunday morning before participants planted a couple hundred seedlings in a nearby nature reserve.

Participants listened, discussed, brainstormed, coloured-in and acted-out their learnings over the course of the weekend, and from all accounts had a great time doing so.

By the end of the weekend, most participants only had their projects left to complete the badge. They will be supported by the SEAP team as they embark on this last task.

Thank you to all those that participated and provided assistance over the weekend. In particular, to SEAP member, Amanda Fairs, who initiated and coordinated the weekend after being inspired by the Victorian version, Envirover.
